What is restorative dentistry?

Restorative dentistry describes the services we provide to repair the damage done to your teeth. Treatments like fillings, crowns, and root canal treatment repair the decay of cavities and other damages to tooth structure; and dental implants can prevent harmful effects of missing teeth. Even if you have multiple restorative needs, we will assist you in creating a treatment plan that will restore your healthy set of teeth.

What is the difference between a filling, dental inlay/onlay and a crown?

Fillings, dental inlays/onlays, and dental crowns all serve the same purpose: to stop existing tooth decay or cavities and prevent further tooth deterioration. Depending on the size and location of the issue, we may recommend any of these restorative dentistry treatments.

I’ve lost a tooth. What are my options for replacing it?

There are several options available to replace your missing tooth. When you visit our office, our dentists will examine your mouth, discuss your oral health needs and smile goals with you, and review your treatment options. We will design a customized treatment plan to restore your tooth and smile. Some of the tooth replacement options we may discuss include:

  • Dental implants
  • Dental bridges
  • Complete or partial dentures

Wouldn’t it be simpler just to have all my teeth pulled to avoid any future problems with my teeth?

This is not a good idea as dentures aren’t always the best answer. When there are no more teeth, bone is constantly lost, which means that dentures never fit properly and have to be remade on an ongoing basis. Dentures are also never as good as natural teeth and taste and speech for example are compromised.

Is there anything that can be done about my uneven teeth?

This can be fixed with cosmetic contouring, porcelain veneers, orthodontics, bonding, or crowns.

Will the treatment be expensive?

Your treatment cost will depend on the severity of the damage to your teeth and the type of treatment needed to fully restore them. We will provide you with an estimate of your cost prior to providing your treatment.
